Residency
Subtlehaus is currently in its launch phase and offers short, fee-free stays to creative professionals with an established personal brand or self-media practice. There is no requirement on the form or frequency of exposure; residents are only asked to tag @reflection.tw in photos or videos published during or about the stay, to complete a feedback form after check-out, and to consent to our use of these materials for promotion.
2026 Program
For 2026 the program is offered to Taiwan-based creators. Two creators sharing the house may combine their allowance into 14 nights (and so on). Occupancy is capped at 3 people, including at most one child. International applicants are welcome to enquire by email.
User-pays utilities: air-conditioning in summer, heating in winter, basic electricity and water. Prices are before tax; 5% business tax is added at payment.
Utilities included. All fees go toward house maintenance, repairs, utility and tax bills.
Nationals of many countries, including Taiwan, may enter Japan visa-free for up to 90 days; please check the requirements for your own nationality. If budget and schedule allow, we recommend staying two weeks or longer to fully experience the rhythm of life the residency proposes.
Eligibility & Selection
- Priority is given to artists who have exhibited with LEXPO international art fairs; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Applicants who have not exhibited with LEXPO may submit a project outline and relevant experience for review.
- Please propose three alternative date ranges to help with scheduling.
- Once a booking is confirmed, it cannot be cancelled or rescheduled except in cases of force majeure.
- Applicants with professional photography or videography, marketing or brand-partnership capacity who wish to exchange these for a longer stay are welcome to propose a collaboration.
- Keys must be posted back to our Taipei office within seven days of check-out.
House Guidelines
Subtlehaus is a self-directed, self-catered residency, not a serviced accommodation. Residents look after their own daily life; the house provides creative support and autonomy. Traces of use are part of the space — they carry the accumulation and flow of different creative energies. Respect and shared responsibility depend on each resident's own care.
- No smoking anywhere indoors.
- Quiet hours after 9 p.m.; please use earphones for calls and video chats.
- Visitors must be announced in advance; no overnight guests without prior approval.
- Please leave the space clean before departure so the next resident enjoys the same comfort.
- Consumables such as toilet paper and kitchen towels are replaced by residents.
If you have no prior artist-in-residence experience, we recommend reading accounts of other residencies to set expectations. Full rules are stated in the House Guide provided upon confirmation.
Outcomes
Residents are encouraged to combine local life and culture with their own practice and to complete a concrete cultural experience or small research or creative outcome during the stay, ideally under a self-defined project theme. Residents who submit a complete project plan and documentation after the stay may be featured in a dedicated column on the REFLECTION platform.
